TRIAC, Triode AC Switch
Triac (Triode AC Switch) is a three terminal AC semiconductor power device, which can be regarded as an integrated body of two unidirectional thyristors (SCR) connected in reverse parallel. It has three electrodes: main electrode MT1 (T1), main electrode MT2 (T2), and gate electrode G.
Its core function is to be able to conduct through the trigger signal of the gate during both positive and negative cycles of AC voltage, achieving contactless switching and power regulation of AC power.


Features:
1. Bidirectional conductivity: Unlike unidirectional thyristors (SCR), which can only conduct in one direction, TRIAC can conduct in both directions, perfectly adapting to AC circuits.
2. Flexible triggering: Gate G can trigger device conduction regardless of whether it is connected to a positive pulse or a negative pulse.
3. Automatic shutdown: After conduction, when the AC current naturally crosses zero, the TRIAC will automatically shut down without the need for external circuits to forcibly shut down.
4. Simple control: Only one trigger circuit is needed to replace two anti parallel unidirectional thyristors and two sets of trigger circuits, simplifying the design.
5. Contactless: It belongs to electronic switches and has no mechanical contacts, so it has a long lifespan, no sparks, fast response, and low noise.
6. Diverse parameters: There are various current and voltage specifications available on the market (such as 1A~80A, 400V~1200V), suitable for different power scenarios.

Applications:
1. Household appliances
    Dimming: Adjusting the brightness of desk lamps and ceiling lamps.
    Speed control: Motor speed control for electric fans, washing machines, and range hoods.
    Temperature control: power adjustment of electric heaters, electric blankets, and ovens.
2. Industrial control
    Solid state relay (SSR): an AC switch used for isolating strong and weak electricity.
    Motor control: stepless speed regulation and start stop of small AC motors.
    Temperature control: Constant temperature control for industrial electric furnaces and ovens.
3. Lighting and Stage Equipment
    Stage lighting and LED dimming system.
4. Other
    Contactless on-off control of AC power supply, current regulation of welding machine, etc.
